Character NAME: Isabelle “Belle” Beaumont
Character PULL-POINT: After Belle asks the witch for a way to harm Philipe, during her magical journey to get rid of her werebear curse.
Character AGE: 17
Character ABILITIES:
Belle comes from Camwood, one of seven countries in the land of Ailbon. It's basically a fairy tale world, full of evil witches, magic and magical creatures, and several princes, princesses, and even one Cinderfella that has shaped the world over hundreds of years. It's been the last few years that have significantly changed Ailbon, starting with the magical journey of a lost princess called Rapunzel and her companions who defeated an evil creature bent on distorting magic further and continuing on with the story of a simple servant named Ashley and Princess Charming, who together saved the kingdom of Glasmont from a powerful witch bent on domination.
Camwood is in the beginnings of a civil war, following the disappearance of Prince Philipe, the sole heir to the throne. The truth is, Philipe was cursed by a fairy after he offended her. She turns him into a beast, but it's not a permanent change. At first the prince believed nothing happened to him, and the the first dark of the moon came, and he was transformed into a large and monstrous bear. He escaped from the palace and accidentally killed a villager. After that, Philipe realized that during these times or whenever he became angry enough—and the curse made sure to twist his emotions towards anger—he would begin the transformation. The fairy had told him that, when the time came, he would have to learn to correct his behavior in order to break the curse.
Philipe didn't have time for that. If his people were to learn about what had happened to him, he was sure people who were vying for the throne would find a way to eliminate him. The prince sought out a witch who agreed to make a potion for him that would eliminate the curse from him and transfer it to whomever drank it. The catch? The person who drank the potion had to be in love with him. In return, the witch asked for a favor from him: whatever she wanted, whenever she asked. He readily agreed, and then he ran off to an abandoned castle in the countryside to wait. A year passed, and his country slowly dissolved into civil war. But he had yet to find a person who would love him. He was, after all, a beast cursed by fairy magic. And then one day, a man stumbled upon his castle in the middle of winter. He dined at the prince's table, sought comfort by the fire, and in the end, stole a rose from the prince's own garden.
Philipe confronted the merchant, looking wild and deranged. The man begged for his life and told him the story about how he had promised his youngest daughter that he would bring a rose back for her. The prince let the man go, but not before getting a promise from him: he was to send this daughter who had wanted the rose, or he would find the man and kill him. As promised, not a fortnight had passed before the lovely Belle arrived.
And that's where Belle's story begins.
Isabelle Beaumont was the youngest child of Maurice Beaumont, who had already had two lovely daughters with his wife. Her mother died only a few short years later, from illness. Despite her father's lifestyle, which often had him away from his daughters, he provided well for them. Marguerite, Sophie, and Belle wanted for very little, but they didn't have much in the way of parental guidance. There was a maid, of course, and a cook for a few years, but it wasn't much. All three girls grew up with vastly different personalities.
When Belle was 17, her father had to go to a neighboring kingdom to hash out details for a trading port. He asked each of his daughters what they would like as gifts. Marguerite asked for jewels (which seems pretty shallow, but she used them to gamble with, o o p s), Sophie asked for beautiful gowns (because she is shallow), and Belle asked for a rose (because she likes pretty flowers). Her father agrees to all of this and sets off. A few weeks later, he returns with the gifts, but something seems off about him.
A few nights later, her father pulled Belle aside. He told her that she must do something for him. He needed for her to go to this man he had met in a ruined castle to become his servant, or else the man would take his life. Well, what else is a young and innocent girl to do but believe that she must do this in order to save her father? So Belle left the only home she had ever known in the middle of the night, without even telling her sisters (her father forbade it; probably because Marguerite would have stomped his stupid ass into the ground). She eventually arrived at the castle of this man.
To Belle, he didn't seem very frightening. At least not at first. He was charming, and she recognized him as their lost prince. Their relationship was strained at first. She acted as his servant, helping to clean and cook and care for his gardens. But they eventually began to learn more about each other as they carried on conversations. He taught her things like hunting and archery, and she shared with him some of her favorite books to read and stories about her sisters. She quickly learned of his violent outbursts, and while they frightened her, she came to understand that they were the result of the curse on him. The young girl reassured the prince that this wasn't his true self, and she would do whatever she could to help him. Even when she was confronted with his beastly form, she took it in stride. To summarize these two months spent with Prince Philipe, the naïve Isabelle was beginning to fall in love with him.
Which worked perfectly for the prince. He wasn't exactly heartless, and he did feel horrible for using her. In fact, he liked her but his duty was to his country and there was no way a prince would be able to marry a merchant's daughter. So one night, he slipped the potion into her drink at dinner. And the transformation began. She was angry and upset and heartbroken, and Philipe apologized for the deception, but he couldn't let Camwood fall because of this curse. She was doing her country a favor by taking his curse, and he would reward her one day for her heroic actions. Oh, and he also gave her the castle to stay in.
For three months, Belle's anger and betrayal wouldn't allow her to break out of the bear form. She wrecked the castle, ruined the garden, and spent a lot of time roaming the forest. It was a learning experience. And then one day, she became human again and returned back to the castle.
Not much longer after this, her sister arrived in search of her. It had taken awhile, but Marguerite had found a way to get the information out of their father. Belle tried to avoid her sisters, but they refused to be ignored. When they learned of the curse, they told her that they would not abandon her. In fact, both sisters decided that they would go in search of the fairy who had started the curse and help to break it. It took time, but eventually Belle agreed.
The sisters went on magical adventures and became closer as they traveled. They found the witch that Philipe had made a deal with, and in turn, each girl also made a deal with the witch. Belle didn't know what her sisters had asked for, but what she wanted from the witch was a way to hurt the prince as he had hurt her. In return, Belle promised the witch a favor to be carried out whenever the witch asked her for it. This is when Belle ends up in Exsilium.
Character PERSONALITY:
Once upon a time, Belle was a sweet and quiet girl, more interested in her garden and her books than things like dressing up, looking beautiful, or falling in love. She was the easy and simple child of her and her sisters. And then her father decided to steal from some cursed prince and agreed to give her away to him as penance. Thanks, Dad. But being the dutiful child that she was, she went for her father and met with this beast that had made him give up his child. This was when the Belle who used to be became the Belle that she is now.
Instead of the typical fairy tale love story, the prince decides that he's had enough of turning into this hideous beast. After all, he has a country to run, and what does he care about one girl from a merchant family? So he passes the curse along to her instead and runs off back to his palace. It's a betrayal, really. It leaves Belle confused and hurt and angry, not only because of the prince's actions, but also because her father has forced her into this situation. Her anger steadily grows worse as the weeks pass, fueled by the nature of the curse that is meant to turn any person into a monster steadily. Where once there was a sweet-natured girl, she was now surly and aggressive, territorial and possessive.
The situation jades her, really. The world is going to be full of people who will betray you. Because of this thought, and also because she can't help turning into a bear, Belle isolates herself in the rundown castle where the prince used to occupy before she came along. Several months pass that she spends relatively on her own, only occasionally running into a few idiots attempting to cross into her property or trying to hunt her down. This results in an independence she hadn't quite had before, taking care of herself and whatnot. Part of her knew that she had to find a way to break the curse, but she wasn't sure where to start; the prince had left her with nothing but this problem after all.
Anger and violence are not all she knows. She is still the girl she used to be in some ways. She still loves to read and garden, and most especially, she is still capable of being friendly and of love, even if she likes to pretend otherwise. For the most part, people keep their distance from her—as if they can tell that she is under this curse—and she likes to keep her distance from them, so that she can't be hurt once again by somebody that she cares about or wants to help. She can—and usually is—a pretty rude individual. Her language can be foul, especially for a girl who had been raised in a generally well-off home. Belle's had to shut herself off from the world, or fall completely into the madness of hating everything. It's a concept she doesn't want to face or let happen to herself. So if that means that people don't like her, well... She can totally live with that. The exceptions to this, however, are her sisters.
Belle loves her two older sisters immensely. Having lost her mother at an early age, and having been raised by her eccentric merchant father, she relied mostly on Sophie and Marguerite for support, guidance, and friendship, despite the fact that all three sisters were entirely different from each other in personality. Still, she would do anything for them, and their travels together to find a way to break the curse affecting her only brings them closer together as a family.
The curse itself is a strange thing for Belle. While she hates it and wishes it to be gone, she can admit to herself that there is a certain freedom to it. She likes the feeling of being wild and free, and she likes how powerful she feels once she's transformed into her bear form. Humans and society don't really matter then, as she's been brought up to believe as a young lady.
Despite how magic has shaped Belle's world, she hasn't had much interaction with it before this incident. It's definitely something that's colored her view on the whole thing. She hates it and hates how easily it can be abused, regardless of who has the power. Belle was an innocent in this, and still she somehow managed to be cursed both by a prince who refused to work at his faults and by the fairy who decided that the human was just too much of an animal to continue on as he was. Unless magic is going to work in her favor, she really doesn't want anything to do with it.
Her feelings for the prince are... also a strange thing. She spent time with the man before he screwed her over, and she believes that she was beginning to fall in love with him. But in the end, he used her for his own needs and didn't really give a crap about how she felt about it. It still hurts, thinking about it, and it generally pisses her off enough that she might go all bear form if she thinks or talks too much about it all. She gets why he probably felt the need for it, but there's just really no rational thought when it comes to having this curse forced on her. Now she just wants to destroy him the same way he destroyed her. Completely irrational.

First PERSON:
[Currently, the netbook is upside down when it's finally turned on, so there's a weird angle on the young woman's face as she leans into super close to the screen.] Is this like one of the magic mirrors I've heard about?
[Her cheeks puff out a bit as she moves back, and while the video is still upside down, you can make out that the girl's dark hair is messy and full of leaves.] I am sick of magic. And also people holding me against my will. [The girl taps at the screen, hard.]
Third PERSON:
It was easy enough to tell while Belle followed the too-smily woman around that her sisters hadn't passed by here anytime soon. That was just one of those things that she had discovered about herself, following the curse that had been placed on her. Her sense of smell had heightened greatly; which, to tell the truth, had a lot of downsides to it as well. Still, it was useful right now. She wished that it wasn't there. It would have been nice to have some hope that her sisters would be waiting for her here.
A tight smile pulled at her lips. That had been stupid to even want. Nothing about Belle's life since Philipe had betrayed her was exactly good and hopeful. Even the search for the fairy was becoming a bust. Her hand slipped into her pants pocket, fingers wrapping tightly around the bottle the witch had only just given her.
Slip the prince this potion, my dear girl, and you will have your sweet revenge.
But that wouldn't be possible here, would it? Unless Philipe also happened to be drafted into a war. Unless he found some other girl to fool into helping him escape from here as well.
Belle let the bottle go and instead looked at the bow gripped tightly in her hand. His weapon of choice, his curse, his poison in her pocket. If Marguerite could hear her thoughts now, she would tell her darling little sister that she was a woman obsessed with the man. And it was true, Belle supposed. But she had nothing else to drive her on. Just her need for revenge and her need to break the curse.

Character PULL-POINT: After Belle asks the witch for a way to harm Philipe, during her magical journey to get rid of her werebear curse.
Character AGE: 17
Character ABILITIES:
- She can turn into a terrifyingly large bear, usually not at will. It's guaranteed to happen during the dark of the moon. Because the fairy was a dick. She is still aware of who she is during these times, for the most part.
- As a bear, Belle is faster and stronger. She has excellent climbing skills. Also her sense of smell is absolutely amazing, better than any other mammal.
- As a human, because of the curse, she's faster and stronger than most humans and her sense of smell is better than other humans as well, but nowhere near as good as when she is a bear.
- She's also a gardener.
- And an avid reader.
- She's pretty okay with a bow and arrow too, because Philipe was a decent teacher.
